About sicovis
Practical security for people who run systems without a security department.
sicovis stands for Security Intelligent Code. We write for the people who keep systems running without a security department behind them: small business owners, freelancers, web agencies, administrators and developers.
Security you can verify
Our claim is a working rule. Every guide names its sources, every comparison shows its criteria and scores, and every tool on this site runs in your browser so you can see what it does. We would rather explain a trade-off than sell a certainty that does not exist.
What we cover
- Hardening: the controls with the best return for small teams, from MFA to tested backups.
- Comparisons: 13 interactive comparisons of web servers, hosting models, Linux distributions, language model options, CMS, operating systems, messengers, password managers and browsers.
- Secure code: the classic vulnerabilities and how to avoid them, written for working developers.
- Tools: 8 browser tools, from the Password Lab to the CSP Builder.
How we compare
Comparisons score each option from 1 to 5 on criteria we name and explain, higher is always better. The scores are an editorial assessment on the date shown, based on official documentation, release notes and security advisories. You can weight the criteria yourself, and the ranking changes with your priorities. No vendor pays for a mention, and we do not use affiliate links.
Fingerprints
Every article carries a small picture: the fingerprint of its own address. It is the SHA-256 hash of the path, drawn with the same “drunken bishop” algorithm OpenSSH uses to show host keys. Type an address into the Checksum Verifier and you get the same picture. A small reminder that good security can be checked.
What we do not do
We publish defensive knowledge. We do not publish exploit code or attack instructions, we do not test systems we do not own, and we do not offer security services through this magazine.
